Town Center Grand Opening at Disney Springs

Eager with anticipation, guests flocked to Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort this morning with the hopes of being among the first to experience its newest retail neighborhood – Town Center.

Opening in phases today and throughout the summer, Town Center will be home to some of the most recognizable names in retail such as Anthropologie, ZARA, LACOSTE and Lucky Brand, as well as some brands that are new to the Central Florida market, such as UNIQLO, Melissa Shoes and UNOde50. Within Town Center, Guests will find exceptional shopping and dining experiences along with breathtaking vistas overlooking The Spring, the heart and soul of the property.

Town Center features Spanish-revival style architecture, drawing from a rich history of explorers that landed in Florida centuries ago, and a promenade where guests can relax, refresh and reconnect with each other. Town Center, like the rest of Disney Springs, is brought to life with the same focus on storytelling and attention to detail that goes into Disney’s theme parks, resorts and cruise ships – resulting in a welcoming space that only Disney could create.

As guests enter Town Center around The Spring area, they will be warmly greeted at the Welcome Center, a new home for Guest Relations at Disney Springs that will offer a wealth of services including theme park and Cirque du Soleil ticket sales, Disney dining and resort reservations, information for guests with disabilities, foreign currency exchanges, and other general assistance items. Themed to early Florida settlements, the architecture around The Spring is based on timber frame structures that were once used in the citrus and ranching industries.

Access to Disney Springs is about to become even easier. Roadway improvements on Buena Vista Drive are nearly complete, with additional car lanes and dedicated bus lanes now operational. Also, now open, the Lime Garage offers Guests convenient parking access to Disney Springs Town Center and the Marketplace. This new garage, similar to the Orange Garage on the West Side, uses smart technology to identify open parking spaces.

Depp stars in Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” an all-new adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories. In the new film, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter.

Guests visiting Disney Parks can watch a preview of scenes from the movie in sneak peeks at Disney California Adventure park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

At Disney California Adventure park, the preview of “Alice Through the Looking Glass” is presented in 3D with special in-theater effects at the Sunset Showcase Theater (formerly Crown Jewel Theater). Disney World Monorails are one of the most beloved and recognizable modes of transportation on Walt Disney World property. These futuristic-looking, electric trains run on a concrete track high in the sky. Many consider a ride on the monorail as a ride in itself. Climb onboard this “Highway in the Sky” and take in the impressive sights of the Magic Kingdom and its resorts. There are three different tracks for the monorail trains – The Magic Kingdom Express, the Magic Kingdom Resorts, and an Epcot Line. The Express Monorail line runs continuously from the Transportation & Ticket Center to the Magic Kingdom. This makes it fast and convenient for guests arriving from the main parking lot. The Magic Kingdom Resort loop makes five stops; Transportation & Ticket Center, the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Magic Kingdom, and then the Contemporary Resort. The Resort Monorail is a great way to visit the Magic Kingdom Resorts for shopping and dining. The Epcot line provides round trip service to Epcot from the TTC. The monorail has been transporting guests since the Walt Disney World Resort opened in 1971. And remember, “Please stand clear of the doors! Por favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas!”

VIP Ride on Orlando’s Tallest, Longest and Fastest Coaster to be Auctioned for Charity

Give Kids the World is our favorite non-profit organization and we are lovers of roller coasters, so we could not be more excited about this brilliant opportunity!

Thrill-ride fans itching to board SeaWorld Orlando’s spectacular new Mako roller coaster can skip the lines and be among the first to experience the most anticipated attraction in Central Florida this year, by participating in a special seat auction to benefit Give Kids The World Village.

SeaWorld Orlando and Give Kids The World Village (GKTW) are holding a seat auction that will allow winners to be among the first to ride the Mako coaster on June 8, before the Grand Opening celebration on June 10. It’s a chance to experience the “tallest, fastest and longest coaster in Orlando” and to be part of “hypercoaster” history!

Auction proceeds will help GKTW fulfill the dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses whose wish is to visit Orlando’s world-famous theme parks and other attractions.

The seat auction will be available at www.32auctions.com/InauguralMakoRide, now until June 3. Riders may pick their preferred seat during the bidding process depending on their desired thrill level: a middle seat in the middle car, or a side-seat in the back.

There’s even an exclusive, one-of-a-kind experience – offered at a minimum bid of $2,000 – that will award the winner two seats in the front row, riding with Brian Morrow, Vice President of Theme Park Experience for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment and Give Kids The World Village President and CEO Pamela Landwirth. In addition, the premium package winner will be awarded a two-night’s stay at a hotel near the theme park and lunch with Morrow, among other perks.

There are 80 additional seats available for auction, offered at a minimum bid of $250 or $500 depending on the train and seat(s) chosen. Winners will receive their selected seat(s), a Mako T-shirt, free parking and admission to SeaWorld Orlando for the remainder of the day.

Give Kids The World Village is a 79-acre, nonprofit “storybook” resort, located near Central Florida’s most beloved attractions, where children with life-threatening illnesses and their families are treated to weeklong, cost-free vacations.

Mako Surfacing June 10th at SeaWorld Orlando

Orlando’s tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster will surface at SeaWorld on June 10 and will be the centerpiece of Shark Wreck Reef – a newly designed realm that blends education and thrills, while immersing guests in an underwater world.

The two-acre realm will be fully shark themed and include Mako, Shark Encounter, Sharks Underwater Grill, shops, shark and shipwreck theming and educational experiences featuring sharks.

Shark Wreck Reef is designed to make guests feel they’re underwater and part of the group of sharks that have taken over a shipwrecked reef.

Inside the realm, guests will learn about the impact humans are having on sharks and why these animals are critical to the environment. Sharks are hunted for their fins — considered a delicacy in certain countries — and in addition, tens of thousands are caught accidentally in nets. Several species of sharks are on the verge of extinction.

As guests venture further into the realm and into the queue line they’ll discover a unique sound system that will enhance their experience.  An original Mako score can be heard and follows guests as they enter the loading bay and emerge from the station aboard Mako and up the lift hill.

At night, specialty lights will accent the coaster trains, realm and track, flickering and shimmering, simulating fish being scattered by a mako on the hunt.

Mako will be a hypercoaster, designed for speed and relentless “air time” and lures guests to brave it’s tight turns, steep drops and predator power speeds. Riders will climb up to 200 feet high – offering tremendous views of the surrounding area – before plunging to reach speeds up to 73 mph.

All-Star Sports Resort was the first value resort built on the Walt Disney World property and opened May 1994. There are 1,920 rooms spread out over ten buildings.

If you are looking for a reasonable resort option… but still have each advantage that staying onsite has – then Disney All Star Sports is the place for you!

Do you have any sports enthusiasts in your family? They’ll love all of the larger-than-life sports icons. And at the All-Star Sports Resort, bigger is better! You’ll find bright, colorful sport-themed art icons… football, tennis, baseball, basketball and surfboards. At one area, giant helmets and megaphones that pretty much cover the stairwells.

The rooms are about 260 square feet. Your typical room has two double beds (or one king-sized bed), a mini-fridge, small table with two chairs, television, nightstand, telephone, dresser, wall mirror, luggage rack, closet area, and a clock radio. The bathrooms have a single sink and mirror in a vanity area that is separate from the tub. A small wall safe is available to hold any valuables. All rooms are equipped with central air conditioning.

Roll-away cots may be requested; for a $15 per night charge. They also offer bed rails and pack-n-plays. Just give a call to Housekeeping to request one.

Where’s the best spot to stay at? Well, if you want to be close to the food court and bus stop, try to request the Surfs Up or Touchdown buildings. But, if you’re looking for a little quiet, then Center Court might be a better option for you.

Christian music festival Rock the Universe Returns to Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando’s Rock the Universe, Florida’s biggest Christian music festival, returns September 9 and 10 with live performances by some of today’s most compelling artists in Christian music.

Giraffe Family at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Meet grandmother Malaika, mother Makena and granddaughter Luna, a multigenerational giraffe family who live together on the Sunset Savanna at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Malika was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and both Makeena and Luna were born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.
