Halloween Horror Nights 23 at Universal Orlando has a history of creating an incredibly entertaining, horrifying Halloween experience that is consistently rated as the nation's best. The event features highly-themed, disturbingly-real haunted houses that are based on everything from hit films to worst nightmares -- and streets filled with hundreds of specially-trained "scareactors."

Halloween Horror Nights 23 runs select nights at Universal Studios from Sep. 20-Nov. 2 2013.

Haunted Houses announced for Halloween Horror Nights 23 include:

  • Cabin in the Woods
  • The Walking Dead
  • Evil Dead
  • La Llorona
  • Resident Evil
  • An American Werewolf in London
  • Havoc
  • Afterlife: Death's Vengeance
If you aren't familiar with La Llorona, here's an overview:
Her legend is one of tragedy...of murder.  To hear her mournful cries sends chills down your spine colder than the murky, watery depths she drowned her victims within.  Forced to eternally walk the earth, she seeks others to share her pain and suffering - now and forever...Guests will come face to face with the 500-year old legend that has haunted millions of people in Latin America for generations, as the popular legend La Llorona comes to life as a haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights 23 at Universal Orlando Resort. It will begin when Guests enter an old Mexican Chapel where they hear La Llorona's horrifying tale of murder, tragedy and fatal love. Guests step into the funeral of her victims, and as they progress, they'll hear her cold, ghostly whisper that announces her presence.
Afterlife: Death's Vengeance is not based on any film or any TV show, rather an original idea from Universal Creative themselves. It is described as follows:

Witness the brutal vengeance of his victims as they turn his afterlife into an inescapable hell...

This fall, 2000 volts of electricity are going to send serial killer, Bobby "The Blade" Galleta into a horrific realm of suffering at Halloween Horror Nights 23 in this new, original haunted house, Afterlife: Death's Vengeance.

Walking Dead Fans can rejoice, as there will not only be a Haunted House/Maze but the "scare zones" will be the Walking Dead Street Experience

Fans with a  appetite for AMC’s “The Walking Dead” will have a chance to walk in the footsteps of human survivors when Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort debut all new terrifying mazes inspired by Season 3 of the critically-acclaimed, award-winning television series at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights events beginning September 20.

The eerily authentic and disturbingly real maze experiences will place Halloween Horror Nights guests at the heart of the show’s once impenetrable prison, the West Georgia Correctional Facility, now overrun by hordes of flesh-eating walkers. The mazes at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando will send guests cowering through the walker-infested wilderness that surrounds the prison and into the seemingly utopian town of Woodbury where gruesome secrets are concealed.

Universal Orlando is also dedicating its entire Halloween Horror Nights street experience to “The Walking Dead” – making this the first time ever that all of the scare zones throughout the park will be themed after a hit television series. Guests brave enough to walk the streets of Universal Studios Florida will encounter iconic scenes from all three seasons of the hit show - including the perilous city of Atlanta and Hershel’s dismal barn - and fleets of blood-thirsty walkers who are hungry for their next victim…

Halloween Horror Nights 23 has event specific shows as well:

  • Bill & Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure
  • Rocky Horror Picture Show

If you're already visiting the Universal Orlando theme parks, tickets begin at $38.99. Halloween Horror Nights 23 Event Only tickets are available as well. Are you ready to book your Gory Getaway?
